Practice Update

Dear Patients, 

With the end of 2022 drawing to a close, we are writing with some exciting news. 

In February 2022 myself and my wife Lara became the new owners of Lynbridge House Dental Surgery and as some of you may have already seen, we renamed the practice Dartmoor Dental.

This is not our first time of practice ownership, previously purchasing a long-established practice in the centre of Exeter in 2012 and growing it to an award-winning centre of excellence - The Exeter Dental Centre.  We have a very clear philosophy, where high standards and the latest technology are paramount to patient care and leading dental treatment.

We hope the overview below, helps to give you a greater understanding of what has been happening at the practice since our takeover earlier this year and what plans are in place for the future of Dartmoor Dental & its valued patients & staff. 

 

Our Aims & Investments 

Dartmoor Dental is currently undergoing a half a million-pound investment, with six replacement dental chairs already complete, a new radiographic 3D imaging machine, digital scanners, and the all-new Airflow dental hygiene technology.  Underpinning this investment is new kit and equipment for best practice treatment, the IT has been fully upgraded and the practice management software has been moved to Dentally, a cloud-based state of the art communications system designed to make booking appointments convenient and stress free.   

The telephones have been moved off the front reception desk to reduce waiting time at ‘check In’ and you will now be met by two friendly receptionists who will focus on your booking and greeting when you arrive.  This, along with the new Microsoft 365 software, WhatsApp for business, dentally smart patient portal and our online booking tool, should make for a more pleasant and smooth patient journey with us.  

We understand the current reception space and waiting areas are in real need of some TLC, please do bear with us, this is at the forefront of our plan and we have a redecoration program commencing in the first half of 2023. Our vision is to create a calm and comfortable space, whereby you can sit back and relax until your appointment. The exterior of the building will be addressed too, with scaffolding and decorators booked for spring alongside new signage. 

New Room ‘air change’ systems are being installed to refresh and filter all the air into the surgeries over twelve times an hour for, air conditioning for patient & staff comfort. 

 

 Investing In Our People

We are nothing without a great team. All of our staff are undergoing an extensive training programme. From Front Of House training to advanced dental courses, you will start to see a greater involvement of the whole team in your dental care, utilising the General Dental Council’s full scope of practice.  This means we can be more efficient in seeing patients, work towards five-star treatment and reduce waiting lists. We aim to offer the best patient care for as many patients as we can in Tavistock and the surrounding areas, both under our NHS exempt contract and our Private Dentistry Membership. 

 

Membership Makeover 

Earlier this year, we launched a new single plan for the practice, in place of the nine currently in existence.  The new plan is to make life simpler for everyone and is perfectly designed for patients who wish to spread the cost of their preventative dental care in a scheme that’s straight forward and rewards patients for loyalty. We really value our membership clients and work hard to ensure you always receive the best exclusive fees and benefits for becoming part of our private members club. From January 2023 there will be a small monthly fee increase to fall inline with our overall treatment fee increases.

Membership Includes: 

  • One annual check-up  

  • Two dental hygiene visits a year 

  • Half price emergency visit for temporary treatment and pain relief (£60 instead of £120) 

  • 5% off all private dental treatment

Launching Dental Implants 

We are delighted to welcome experienced Implant Surgeon – Jonny Lynd to the practice. Dr Lynd has placed over 600 implants, has an excellent reputation & achieves fantastic patient results. If you have a missing tooth or dentures and would like a fixed permanent solution that fits perfectly, please email hello@dartmoordental.co.uk to book your consultation with Dr Lynd.

Consultations are £90 which covers a thorough assessment with best treatment and solution offered.  

 

Coming Soon for 2023 

Plans are in place to offer three new services for 2023. Sedation for Nervous patients, Award Winning Skin Aesthetics  & Cosmetic Teeth Straightening. More details to follow in spring 2023. Our NHS Contract 

We are working super hard to continue with our NHS exempt contract, although it grossly underfunded as you may have seen reported in the media recently. We felt as new owners to the business, it was our duty to try maintain the contract for the community and provide a safety net to the people of Tavistock for their dental needs.  We have moved our NHS bookings and enquiries online to cope with the overwhelming demand of the service. This is the fastest way to book and a necessary measure in order to keep the service working. We politely request all patients visit our website and follow the instructions below to make your appointment.  

Our NHS exempt contract allows only patients in receipt of certain benefits and patient groups such as pregnant/new mothers and children to obtain this service.

NHS Kids Clubs 

In the August 2022 holidays we launched our first dedicated ‘Kids Club’, where the whole practice reverted to being a ‘child only’ centre for the morning.  Parents had the opportunity to book ‘check up’ appointments for their children and make the most of toothbrushing stations led by nurses, child friendly oral health advice and goody bags to help make dentistry more fun for kids. Helping children form positive associations with the dentist from a young age is vital to helping them grow up without dental fears and phobias. We are now delighted to announce, we now have scheduled kids club every school holiday for the rest of 2022 and 2023.  

Appointments are open from babies to children 18years and under.

New Faces  

Please do visit our Meet The Team website to meet the team in full. Here you will find all the familiar faces of Lynbridge House and a few new additions.  Since ownership in February 2022, we have been able to offer out six new positions at the practice and have pipeline plans for further growth recruitment.  There is currently a massive shortage of dental staff across the UK but given our connections in the Southwest and our independent nature we have been able to recruit several new talented clinicians which we are excited to introduce. 

Our Team  

New General Manager 

Karina Keyte has worked with Mike and Lara on numerous ventures over the last ten years and we are delighted to have her on board at Dartmoor as our dedicated general manager. Karina is an organisational whizz, brilliant with people and her dental sector knowledge is second to none.  

Rebecca Hammond - Dentist 

Becky has joined us from Cornwall, a background of dealing with nervous patients and university student colleague of Matthew Brock, Becky has settled in really well and is a real asset to our team.  We are excited to announce Becky will be introducing sedation services into the practice later in 2023 and also taking over the retiring David Coopers list in January 2023  

Lauren Binns – Dental Therapist 

Lauren joins us having qualified from Peninsula Dental School in Plymouth. Lauren is a dental therapist which means that alongside carrying out dental hygienist work can also place small fillings under the prescription of the dentist.  Dental therapists are the future of modern digital dental practices and are we feel very lucky to have Lauren on board. Lauren joined us in August and is also our lead for children’s dentistry.  

Ayman Muktar - New Trainee Dentist 

We have been successfully selected as an approved training practice for new dentists straight from university to gain more experience in a supportive environment.  Matthew Brock is the designated trainer with our new team member Ayman Muktar who joined in September. Ayman will be with us for one year and will be working with our NHS exempt patients.  

Jonny Lynd- Implantologist 

Jonny has joined as our dedicated dental implantologist and works with us every other Tuesday.  Having placed over 600 implants and teaching on various courses, Jonny is very experienced and gentle when placing dental implants.  

Congratulations 

To dentist Emma Majer who had a lovely baby boy in March 2022 and is enjoying her Maternity leave, we are looking forward to her returning in January 2023.
